In 2004 VTC strategically decided to develop several first generation diagnostic tests in order to gain assay development experience and credibility. These first generation tests also provided the basis for the development of the second generation quantitative magnetic food safety tests.

Several first generation human and animal health diagnostic tests are scheduled for limited market introduction in 2008.
